Teak Salad Bowl Turned Yarn Bowl by tiscaitlin
Teak Salad Bowl Turned Yarn Bowl
I do so love repurposing mundane wooden bits and pieces. I started on this bowl right after finding it, only hit a snag & set it aside.. where it sat for a couple of years, oops. This week, a resolution to the snag came to mind, after which I just had to work on it until it was done. A couple of days later, here's the result; photo taken while it was soaking up a bit of butcher block conditioner. :)
Seastone Pendant by tiscaitlin
Seastone Pendant
I was beachcombing in Southern California last November, and on this one beach, the shells were far outnumbered by tons of these VERY smooth rounded stones with the neatest markings on them. Scooped up quite a few of them, and made the best ones into pendants. I love this one a lot; the blue ceramic bead goes just right with the stone and the waxed cotton cord.
Leather Portfolio Update by tiscaitlin
Leather Portfolio Update
(check out my Leather Portfolio image to see the first phase of work on this, and read the backstory)

As I mentioned there, I originally did the vines and leaves on wet leather in January 2015; first with pencil, and then with black and green Sharpies. Added the paint dots w/glass beads after that, and put it under the heat press to bake it all in.

Last week, I went over the vines and leaves with a green Sharpie; this is a year after the original work was done, so the leather had long since dried out. I love the added dimension that the multiple shades of green provide overall, and the difference in the pen strokes between the wet and dry leather. Pretty pleased with it, once again. :)
For all of the woodburned Totoros here on dA, you'd think it was a rite of passage for all pyrographers, to burn that thing onto some wooden surface or other. I feel so left out.. but not enough to go burn one of those things (whatever it is lol). ;)

DeviantArtist Questionnaire

Journal Entry: Mon Aug 10, 2015, 10:00 AM
  1. How long have you been on DeviantArt? Four years.

  2. What does your username mean? It's caitlin.

  3. Describe yourself in three words. Loving, Creative, Intelligent.

  4. Are you left or right handed? Right.

  5. What was your first deviation? This set of pine ogam.

  6. What is your favourite type of art to create? Hard to pick just one; I enjoy several different artistic outlets right now.

  7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be? Calligraphy.

  8. What was your first favourite? This rowan ogham set (seeing a pattern yet? haha).

  9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most? Now I most definitely can't pick just one.

  10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist? As if I could choose just one of those either. Sheesh. ;)

  11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be? QuintessentialArts with hopes of soaking up some of those mad jewelry skills just by being nearby.. hehe.

  12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life? Can't think of one in particular, but I've had some interesting and inspirational conversations with many of the folks with whom I interact here.

  13. What are your preferred tools to create art? Depends on which art you're talking about.. I do woodcrafting and repurposing, vinyl decal/heat press shirt work, jewelrymaking, a bit of painting, some leatherwork, and the occasional mixed media piece. The tools for each are different, so I suppose whichever medium I'm working with at the time is likely to yield the preferred tools of the moment.

  14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art? I both work and create art here at home, so I guess anywhere here can be inspirational at any given time.

  15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory? Any of the times when artists who I respect and admire took the time to look at and compliment my work. :boogie:

:devart: Happy 15th birthday, deviantArt!! :deviantart:
